Tasting Notes

The wine, simply put,

On the Eye:

On the Nose:

On the Tongue:

Best Enjoyed: Suckling pig, char-grilled pork

And for a more robust read,

Turbid and Bretty is the label belonging to the redoubtable Bill Downie, one of the doyens of Pinot Noir in Australia.  This version is more akin to a Pinot from Jura or Alsace for it has no oak influence but rather expresses rasping red fruit flavours. Simple and all the more charming for that.

ABV: 13.5%

Short story: William Downie started in 2003 with a focus on wine of place. While all of the wines are made from Pinot Noir it has not been listed on the label since 2005. The aim is for the truth not the best. Cool and coastal climate. The fruit is grown on a gently north facing hill on the eastern side of the peninsula close to Western Port Bay. The soil is sandy loam over clay.
